Yarra Crime Investigation Unit detectives are investigating following an assault in Collingwood in January, Victoria Police say.
The incident occurred as the victim, a 36-year-old Carrum Downs man, was walking along Smith Street between Victoria Parade and Mason Street after leaving a bar around 2.45am on 27 January.
It’s believed three men approached the victim and punched him in the face.
Just prior to the assault one of the men made a comment to the victim in relation to his sexuality.
The victim was subsequently taken to hospital with serious facial injuries.
The offenders then fled along Smith Street.
The victim was unable to give investigators a description of his attackers.
Police are urging anyone with information to contact Crime Stoppers.
