Police seek witnesses to serious Southbank assault

Police are appealing for public assistance after a man was violently assaulted in Southbank last month.

It is understood five unknown male offenders assaulted a 34-year-old man on Yarra Promenade in Southbank about 12.40am on Saturday, 18 June.

Investigators have been told they ran at him, before knocking him to the ground and kicking him.

The man was taken to hospital with serious non-life-threatening injuries.

It is believed the offenders then entered a venue in Southbank where they were involved in another assault.

The five men left the scene on foot, and it is understood they headed north on Clarendon Street towards Melbourne CBD about 1.45am.

Police have released CCTV images of five men who may be able to assist with their enquiries.
