Police seek witnesses to South Yarra death

Homicide Squad detectives are appealing for information and footage following the death of a man in South Yarra this morning.

The man, believed to be aged in his 30s, was located lying on the pavement on the east side of Chapel Street, near Oxford Street, with life-threatening injuries at 5.17am.

He was taken to hospital in a critical condition but died shortly after arriving.

At this early stage in the investigation, it is not known how long the man was lying in the street before he was located by a passerby and the alarm was raised.

Detectives are appealing for anyone in and around Chapel Street in the early hours of this morning, particularly down the Toorak Road end, who saw a man lying on the pavement or any suspicious behaviour to come forward.

Investigators would also like to see any dash cam or CCTV footage from the area.

Chapel Street is expected to be closed between Toorak Road and Oxford Street for several hours while detectives investigate.

Any witnesses, anyone with any footage or any other information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or submit a confidential crime report at www.crimestoppersvic.com.au
