Queensland Police Service (QPS) officers braved icy waters to support the annual Polar Plunge fundraiser at Chermside on Sunday, 12 July.
The Polar Plunge is part of the Law Enforcement Torch Run, a global initiative that raises funds and awareness for Special Olympics athletes living with intellectual disabilities.
Sergeant Brett Price, founder and president of Law Enforcement Torch Run Queensland, said the event highlighted the strong connection between police and the communities they serve.
"Events like this are about more than just taking a plunge into icy water," Sergeant Price said.
"They're about showing our support for the incredible athletes of Special Olympics, raising vital funds, and strengthening our connection with the community."
Taking part in the plunge was Sergeant Courtney Russell and her son Slade, a Special Olympics athlete and basketballer.
The event also included officers from the Australian Federal Police (AFP), some plunging in their uniforms, while others donned costumes inspired by a favourite television detective - complete with short sleeves and fake moustaches.
Members of the Pacific Police Support Group (PPSG), including police officers from across the Pacific, also joined the plunge, further showcasing the spirit of inclusion and partnership from across the globe.
Now in its fourth year, the Polar Plunge brought together law enforcement officers, athletes, and community supporters, all united in their commitment to fostering inclusion and supporting sport for people with intellectual disabilities.
Funds raised will help Special Olympics athletes access training and competition opportunities, empowering them to achieve their sporting goals.
The event marked 100 days until the start of the Special Olympics Australia National Games in Melbourne.
