Officers from St George Police have charged five people after a high visibility operation targeting high-risk driving in Sydney's south overnight.
Operation Engage is a multi-agency operation established to enforce road safety, with the primary focus on dangerous driving, excessive speed and anti-social behaviour along the Botany Bay Foreshore, Brighton-Le-Sands.
St George Police Area Command – supported by City South Highway Patrol, Transport for NSW, and the NSW Environment Protection Authority – commenced the operation from 4pm yesterday (Saturday 25 July 2026) and concluded 2am today (Sunday 26 July 2026).
During the operation police arrested and charged five people for multiple driving offences including a mid-range PCA.
Officers conducted 102 random breath tests and 32 roadside drug tests, and 67 infringement notices were issued. A total of 36 vehicles were inspected by Transport for NSW. As a result, 10 red defect notices, 18 yellow defect notices, and 5 defect notices (without labels) were issued. The NSW Environment Protection Authority inspected 14 vehicles, resulting in 10 defect notices and 11 infringement notices.
Incidents of note:
- Shortly before 8pm on Saturday 25 July 2026, officers were patrolling Rocky Point Road, Ramsgate, where they stopped a Ford Ranger utility for testing. Test results of the breath and roadside drug test returned a negative result. Inquiries established the 18-year-old male driver was allegedly driving an unregistered and uninsured vehicle, as well as not complying with his Provisional licence conditions. He was issued three infringement notices for the offences of drive unregistered vehicle, use uninsured vehicle, and not comply P2 licence condition not display P plates.
- About 11pm on Saturday 25 July 2026, officers stopped a Black Volkswagen Golf on General Holmes Drive, Kyeemagh, after the driver was allegedly observed travelling at 130km/h in a signposted 70km/h zone. The driver – a 22-year-old woman was subjected to a roadside breath test which returned a negative result. She was issued an infringement for driver exceed speed for more than 45km/h and her licence was suspended from driving for a period of 6 months.
