Police treating fires as suspicious, Toowoomba

Detectives are treating a number of fires in South Toowoomba causing significant damage to a car dealership and educational facility overnight as suspicious.

Emergency services were called to a Fitzgibbon Street business around 4am where it is believed a vehicle was set alight.

This fire quickly spread to a further six vehicles causing extensive damage.

A short time later police and emergency services were alerted to another blaze at a building in James Street nearby.

The building attached to a catholic educational facility sustained structural damage as a result of the fire.

Crime scenes have been declared at both locations with Ruthven Street closed as investigations continue into the cause.

Anyone who may have noticed anything suspicious or has relevant dashcam and CCTV footage is asked to contact police.
