Police Update 1: Fatal Traffic Crash Charges, Runcorn

Detectives from the Upper Mt Gravatt Criminal Investigation Branch have charged a man following investigations into a fatal traffic crash at Runcorn last week.

It will be alleged around just before 7.30pm on Sunday, 28 June, a 72-year-old female pedestrian was struck by a blue Toyota Hilux on Beenleigh Road.

The alleged driver of the vehicle, a 30-year-old Kingston man, then fled the scene.

The woman sustained critical injuries and later passed away at the Princess Alexandra Hospital.

The vehicle allegedly involved in the crash was located burnt out at Avalon Road in Sheldon a short time later.

Following extensive investigations, officers located a 30-year-old Kingston man around 2.40pm yesterday, 3 July, at a Bahrs Scrub address and took him into custody.

He has since been charged with one count each of dangerous operation of a vehicle causing death and left scene of incident without obtaining help, damaging evidence with intent and driving of motor vehicle without a driver licence disqualified by court order.

The man has been refused police bail and is due to appear in Brisbane Magistrates Court today, 4 July.
