Police update 2: Charges after Sunnybank Siege

A man has been charged with eleven offences following a siege incident in Sunnybank that began yesterday morning.

Police will allege on Saturday, February 14 at 7.15pm, two men armed with weapons, attended a hotel on Toohey Road in Salisbury and demanded money from staff members.

A sum of money was stolen from the hotel and the two men left the address in a vehicle in an unknown direction.

Upon investigations, police attended a Dyson Avenue address yesterday morning (February 18) at 10.30am in relation to the armed robbery in Salisbury.

Upon arrival, a 36-year-old man threatened officers with a firearm. Shortly after, an emergency declaration under the Public Safety Preservation Act was declared, ensuring the safety of community members and officers.

Specialist police including; police negotiators and Special Emergency Response Team (SERT) remained at the scene for over 25 hours trying to resolve the situation peacefully.

The 36-year-old man surrendered into custody at 12.15pm this afternoon, the PSPA was subsequently revoked at 1pm.

A woman and child were also located inside the residence safe and well. Police will allege they are known to the man.

The man has been charged with eleven offences including; three counts of common assault and deprivation of liberty and one count each endangering children by exposure, enter premises with intent, robbery armed, serious assault police officer whilst armed and unlawful possession of a category H weapon.

He is expected to appear before a Magistrate tomorrow (February 20).

The second man involved in the Salisbury hotel armed robbery is yet to be located. Police continue to appeal for that man or anyone with information to contact police.
