Police update 2: Escaped prisoner arrested at Townsville

A man who was wanted for allegedly absconding from a Townsville correctional facility on Monday evening has handed himself into police.

At 11.50am today, a 22-year-old man surrendered to police at the Townsville watch house. He is expected to be charged with escaping lawful custody later today.

The three men who allegedly absconded on Monday night have all been returned to custody.

Around 10.30am yesterday (June 29), officers from Townsville Tactical Crime Unit located and arrested a 22-year-old man in Stuart.

The 22-year-old man was charged with escaping lawful custody, possessing dangerous drugs and possessing anything used in the commission of a crime. He is due to appear in Townsville Magistrates Court today.

A 43-year-old Rasmussen woman and a 22-year-old woman from Ingham are both due to appear in Townsville Magistrates Court on July 13 charged with harbouring an escaped prisoner in relation to the 22-year-old man who was arrested yesterday.

Around 8.45pm on Tuesday night (June 28), a 19-year-old man who allegedly also absconded on Monday evening was arrested and charged with unlawful use of a motor vehicle and escaping lawful custody. He appeared in the Townsville Magistrates Court yesterday.

A 20-year-old woman from Condon, who was arrested with the 19-year-old man on Tuesday night, was charged with unlawful use of a motor vehicle and driving without a licence. She is due to appear in Townsville Magistrates Court on July 13.
