Police Update 2: Missing Woman At Newtown

A crime scene has been declared after human remains were located in bushland off Esk Hampton Road, Redbank Creek last night, 11 July.

Police were called to the area around 10.39pm, where remains were located and a crime scene was declared at 11.20pm.

The remains are yet to be formally identified; however, investigators believe they are those of Jana Armstrong, who was reported missing from Newtown after she was last seen on 7 July.

Investigators are in contact with Ms Armstrong's family.

Forensic examinations and investigations are continuing.

Darling Downs detectives have since executed a search warrant at an address on West Street, Harristown, and taken a 48-year-old Harristown man into custody.

The man has since been charged with one count of murder (domestic violence offence).

He is due to appear at the Toowoomba Magistrates Court tomorrow, 13 July.

Police continue to appeal to anyone with information, or anyone with relevant CCTV, dashcam or other vision, to contact police.

Investigators are particularly interested in dashcam or CCTV vision between Toowoomba and Esk, along Esk Hampton Road and the New England Highway, between 10.30pm on 7 July and 1.30am on 8 July.

Investigations are ongoing.
