Police Update 2: Sexual Assault, Smithfield

Detectives from the Cairns Child Protection and Investigation Unit (CPIU) have charged a 17-year-old boy following an alleged incident on 14 October.

It will be alleged the boy assaulted a teenage boy not known to him at an underpass on the Captain Cook Highway around 6.30pm.

He was charged with three counts of indecent treatment of a child under 16, three counts of making child exploitation material, possess child exploitation material, taking child for immoral purposes, stealing and graffiti.

He was refused bail and is due to appear in the Cairns Children's Court today, 22 October.
