Police update 3: Police expand search for missing man at Cairns

Cairns police have expanded the search area as part of the ongoing efforts to locate 67-year-old Robert Patterson with investigators believing Robert may have been attempting to make his way to Yarrabah at the time of his disappearance.

Police, State Emergency Services personnel and members of the community have conducted extensive air, land and water searches of Portsmith, and have now expanded the search area to include Woree, White Rock and Mount Sheridan.

Robert was last seen in Cairns on May 15.

On May 18, an item of clothing believed to be linked to Robert was located in Portsmith.

Police are asking residents in the areas to continue to check their properties, yards and sheds.

Robert is described as Aboriginal, with a slim build, around 175cm tall with black curly hair. He was wearing a black and white, button up checked shirt and dark coloured jeans (as per attached image).

Inspector Andrew Cowie spoke to the media this morning regarding the search.
