Police update: Attempted robbery, Deception Bay

A 32-year-old man has been charged in relation to two alleged attempted robberies at Deception Bay on Sunday, April 16.

It will be alleged at 6.15am on Sunday, a man entered the back door of a business on Bailey Road and threatened a male staff member with a firearm demanding keys to a vehicle, before leaving.

The man has then attended a neighbouring shop and allegedly again demanded keys to a vehicle.

It will be alleged an altercation has occurred before a staff member was struck to the head. The man was unsuccessful in obtaining a vehicle and allegedly left the scene.

Around 9.45pm, the same man was allegedly observed trying to gain entry to an ATM in Bailey Road at Deception Bay.

At 1.13am on Monday, it will be alleged the man drove a Hyundai Santa Fe into the front of a businesses in Oxley Avenue at Margate. Entry was not gained and Polair commenced tracking the vehicle as it headed south on the Houghton Highway.

The vehicle was tracked on the Gateway Motorway, Logan Motorway then onto the Cunningham Highway.

The car stopped at a service station at Aratula and police arrested a 32-year-old Deception Bay man.

He was transported to the Princess Alexandra Hospital where he remains under police guard after suffering a medical episode.

The 32-year-old man has been charged with three counts each of attempted robbery (using/threatening violence) and enter premises with intent, two counts of dangerous operation of a motor vehicle and one count each of endangering property by fire, attempted stealing, wilful damage, enter premises and commit indictable offence, attempted enter premises, unlawful use of a motor vehicle and stealing.

His matter is expected to be heard before Redcliffe Magistrates Court today.
