Police update: Concern for welfare in Southern region 15 October

Air and land search efforts by Northern Territory Police and community residents continue for two people believed to be missing in the area of Arlparra and Harts Range since Tuesday.

Family members reported Shaun Emitja, 21 and Mahesh Patrick 14 as missing to police after they failed to return to the remote community of Hermannsburg after spending the weekend at Arlparra.

Community residents located the vehicle the pair were travelling in, a blue dual cab Nissan Navara, bogged on a dirt track 9.6km south-east from the Redgum Store, on Tuesday.

Two swags and a campfire was found nearby, however police hold concerns for the welfare of the two as the pair have now been missing for more than 96 hours.

"Police are working with local trackers after footprints were found in an area at the base of a hill late yesterday. Air and land searches of the area will continue throughout the day," said Senior Sergeant Michael Potts

"At this stage there's no evidence to show what provisions the two had with them or whether they have been able to find water in the area.

"We're hoping the significant rainfall in the area on Sunday topped up any little soaks, and that they've been able to locate these."
