Police update: Fatal crash, Barratta

Officers from Townsville Forensic Crash Unit have charged a Giru man following the investigation into a fatal two-vehicle crash in Barratta on August 31.

Police will allege the 39-year-old man was the driver of a Mazda BT50 utility involved in a fatal traffic crash around 4am on the Bruce Highway, between Good Road and Lochinvar Road at Barratta.

A 68-year-old Tasmanian man was pronounced deceased after being transported to Ayr Hospital.

A 39-year-old Giru man was not physically injured in the crash.

On December 19, the 39-year-old man was issued with a notice to appear in Ayr Magistrates Court on January 24. He was charged with one count each of driving a defective vehicle, using a mobile phone while vehicle is moving, failing to keep left of double continuous lines and dangerous operation of a vehicle causing death whilst adversely affect by an intoxicating substance.

These matters are in addition to charges as a result of this traffic crash already before the Ayr Magistrates Court of failing to supply a specimen of breath roadside and failing to supply a specimen of blood on requirement.
