Police update: Fatal traffic crash at Manoora

Forensic Crash Unit investigators have charged a man with manslaughter following the death of a woman in a two-vehicle crash in Manoora on Saturday, July 3.

It will be alleged a sedan was headed south on Enmore Street when the driver has driven through a red light and collided with a SUV which was headed west on Reservoir Road. The sedan careered into a powerpole and the SUV come to rest against a traffic light.

A passenger in the sedan, a 20-year-old Hope Vale woman, died at the scene.

The driver and three other passengers from the sedan were taken to Cairns Hospital.

The occupant of the SUV, a 36-year-old Cairns woman was entrapped in her vehicle. She suffered serious injuries and was taken to Cairns Hospital.

The driver of the sedan, a 34-year-old Whitfield man, has been charged today with manslaughter and two counts each of grievous bodily harm, and assault occasioning bodily harm.

Police have objected to the man's bail and he will appear in the Cairns Magistrates Court tomorrow, July 14.
