Police update: Operation Victor Sector, Coomera

Police have charged a 23-year-old woman following a lengthy investigation into a 5-month-old girl who acquired critical injuries at Coomera in early February this year.

Just before 2.30pm on Wednesday February 1, police were called to a Coomera address in relation to an unconscious 5-month-old girl experiencing breathing difficulties and suffering cardiac arrest.

The infant was transported to Gold Coast University Hospital in a critical condition.

Subsequent tests confirmed the child has significant internal injuries and she remains in hospital receiving treatment.

Detectives from the Gold Coast District Child Protection and Investigation Unit formed 'Operation Victor Sector' to investigate the cause of her injuries.

A 23-year-old woman from Sunnybank Hills has been charged with grievous bodily harm and appeared in Southport Magistrates Court today for mention.

She is due to reappear in the Southport Magistrates Court on June 6.
