Police update: Police incident, Mermaid Beach

Police have charged a 32-year-old man following an incident at Mermaid Beach where it is alleged a firearm was used to threaten police .

It is alleged around 6.20am on Tuesday, November 7, police were called to Karen Avenue after reports of a man slumped in a parked car.

Police attended and while they were making enquiries at the vehicle, the man allegedly got out of his car and made threats towards police with a firearm.

Officers managed to take the man into custody. No one was physically injured as a result of the incident.

The 32-year-old Currumbin Waters man has been charged with two counts each of serious assault police, obstruct police and deprivation of liberty, four counts of dangerous conduct with a weapon and one count each of unlawful entry of vehicle for committing indictable offence whilst armed, attempted unlawful entry of vehicle for committing indictable offence whilst armed, unlawful possession of weapons category D/H/R weapon – firearm used to commit indictable offence, authority required to possess explosives (ammunition) and contravene requirement.

He is due to appear in the Southport Magistrates Court on November 8.
