Police Update: Police-involved Shooting At Cairns

A 59-year-old man has been charged following investigations into a police-involved shooting incident at Kanimbla on 18 November.

Around 10.30am, police responded to reports a man was armed with a knife at the intersection of Elphinstone Street and Ramsey Drive.

It will be alleged that shortly afterwards, the man approached officers with the knife and an officer discharged a firearm.

Medical assistance was immediately provided to the man by police, and he was taken to Cairns Hospital in a critical condition.

Two crime scenes were declared and neither officer was physically injured during the assault.

The 59-year-old man from Mooroobool has been charged with two counts of serious assault police whilst armed.

He is due to appear before Cairns Magistrates Court today, 16 December.

Investigations are ongoing.
