Police update: Police shooting, Molendinar

A 49-year-old Molendinar man has been charged after an incident on the Gold Coast overnight in which he was shot by police.

Shortly before 10.40pm officers were called to Wentworth Avenue following reports a man was armed with two knives in the street and was causing a disturbance.

Responding officers have attended the scene and repeatedly requested the man to drop the knives.

The man then allegedly charged at them and officers have discharged a number of shots for their service firearms.

The man, who is recovering in the Gold Coast University Hospital, was charged this afternoon with acts intended to cause grievous bodily harm, two counts of serious assault police whilst armed and possess knife in a public place.

His matter will be heard in the Southport Magistrates Court tomorrow.

The Ethical Standard Command continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.
