Police update: Serious assault, Hope Island

Police are appealing for information and witnesses in relation to a serious assault that occurred at a major event at Sanctuary Cove, Hope Island, on Saturday night, May 27.

Initial investigations indicate around 9.20pm, police were called to a premises at Masthead Way after reports of a man being punched.

The man was transported to the Gold Coast Hospital where he remains in a critical condition in the Intensive Care Unit.

A number of local and interstate tourists were in the area around the time of the assault.

Police are appealing for public assistance to identify and locate a man who may be able to assist with investigations.

He is described as Caucasian, between 20 and 30 years of age with short dark hair and was believed to be wearing dark tracksuit pants, a long dark sleeve shirt and a satchel bag.

Police are further appealing for anyone who was in the Sanctuary Cove area between 9pm and 9.30pm on Saturday night and noticed something suspicious to come forward.

Anyone who was in Hope Island area between 9pm and 10pm on Saturday night and may have CCTV or dashcam vision is also urged to contact police.

Investigations are continuing.
