Police urge caution on state's roads due to weather, SA

Police are advising the community to drive with care on the state’s road as strong winds whip up dust storms today. Currently visibility is limited on parts of the Lincoln Hwy between Cowell and Port Neil, and on the Arno Bay Rd from Cleve to Arno Bay, according to SA Police.

The Bureau of Meteorology has issued a severe weather warning predicting damaging winds for people in Adelaide Metropolitan, Mount Lofty Ranges, Lower Eyre Peninsula, Eastern Eyre Peninsula, Yorke Peninsula, Mid North and parts of West Coast, Flinders, Kangaroo Island and Murraylands districts.

The alert, first issued early this morning but updated a short time ago, notes that a vigorous cold front is moving across South Australia today.

The warning notes that in addition to damaging winds, areas of raised dust and gusty thunderstorms are also possible.

This photograph, taken a short time ago of a dust storm on the road between Arno Bay and Cowell on the east coast of Eyre Peninsula, shows the need for care on our roads in the circumstances.

Locations which may be affected include Wudinna, Port Lincoln, Cleve, Maitland, Clare, the Adelaide Hills, Victor Harbor and Murray Bridge.

The State Emergency Service advises that people should:

* Move vehicles under cover or away from trees;

* Secure or put away loose items around your property.

* Stay indoors, away from windows, while conditions are severe.
