A revised draft Bill to introduce independent Development Assessment Panels (DAPs) is now open for public consultation.
Minister for Housing and Planning, Kerry Vincent, said the revised draft Bill includes a range of modifications.
"The Government has taken onboard feedback from earlier community consultation held earlier this year in preparing this revised Bill," Minister Vincent said.
"As a Government we are always seeking to get the balance right and have welcomed this feedback as we look to improve our planning system.
"Importantly, I have removed the role of the Minister in referring a development application to a DAP for determination.
"DAPs help take the politics out of planning by providing an alternate independent approval pathway for more complex or contentious development applications."
The independent Tasmanian Planning Commission will manage the process of determining an application under the DAP process, appoint DAP members and determine the application in accordance with the planning scheme requirements.
Councils and other key entities like the Tasmanian Heritage Council will remain involved, providing expert advice to DAPs.
The DAP assessment pathway is optional for certain discretionary applications which meet the eligibility criteria.
The majority of development applications will continue to be assessed by councils under the existing process.
The revised draft Bill is open for consultation until 12 December 2025 on the State Planning Office website: https://www.stateplanning.tas.gov.au/have-your-say
