Pooraka Pound Revolutionises Animal Care

The City of Salisbury and the City of Tea Tree Gully embarked on an exciting joint partnership to deliver a state-of-the-art dog pound facility that addresses the needs of our community, along with the needs of our furry friends.

This facility will set new standards for animal welfare with a safe and welcoming place for dogs to be reunited with their owners. Incorporating the latest above floor kennels for comfort and hygiene, the new pound provides dual access so staff can safely move any dog that needs extra care. The facility also enables staff to enter the facility without exiting their vehicles so they can handle dogs in a secure environment that ensures animal and staff safety.

City of Salisbury Mayor, Gillian Aldridge OAM said that "if you have been unlucky enough to have your furry friend escape your yard, the Pooraka Pound offers a safe and welcoming place to be reunited with your lost dog".

"We now can offer our community a facility where they can reclaim their lost dogs with the knowledge that they have been looked after in a clean and comfortable environment and they will be going home happy".

"This project has provided us the opportunity to work with our friends from the City of Tea Tree Gully to share knowledge and continuously learn and innovate and strive for the best possible service to deliver quality outcomes to meet the needs of our communities."

City of Tea Tree Gully Mayor, Marijka Ryan said that "the opening of this new dog pound is a crucial step forward in our collective efforts to promote responsible pet ownership and to safeguard the welfare of our furry companions.

"Our new facility will provide better conditions for dogs needing temporary shelter, while reducing the burden placed on animal control officers and other resources - saving time and money for our respective communities.

"The welfare of pets is vital and our commitment to this cause has been reinforced by this project."
