A new initiative implemented by the International Labour Organization (ILO), with financial support from the European Commission, is setting the stage for a more inclusive and equitable labour market in Portugal.
The project, titled "Promoting Policies for Work-Life Balance and Gender Equality in the Labour Market in Portugal", aims to strengthen the implementation and impact of existing gender equality legislation. It focuses on overcoming administrative, institutional, and socio-cultural barriers that hinder progress toward decent work for all.
At a recent stakeholder meeting, representatives from the Public Employment Service, Labour Inspection, and the Strategic and Planning Department of the Ministry of Labour from Portugal expressed strong support for the project's goals. The discussion centred on improving the design, implementation, and monitoring of public policies that promote gender equality and work-life balance.
The project will also contribute to collaborative dialogue, capacity-building, and evidence-based policymaking to ensure that gender equality is not just a legal principle, but a lived reality in workplaces.
