Powerful owls protected from poison

Powerful Owls are magnificent birds that are known to visit Bayside's open spaces. They hunt and eat rodents, possums, birds and insects.

Rat poisons known as Second-Generation Anticoagulant Rodenticide (SGAR) contain toxins that are thought to be contributing to a sharp increase in deaths of endangered Powerful Owls.

Council will assess other options for managing rats and other rodents in Bayside's open spaces. We will also advocate for an end to the use of the second generation rodenticides nationally via the Victorian and Australian Governments and local government forums.
