Dads of the Rockhampton region are invited to walk and talk at a Man With A Pram event at Kershaw Gardens this Saturday - a powerful walk and show of solidarity that celebrates fatherhood and tackles the silent struggles many new fathers face.

Deputy Mayor and Communities Culture and Heritage Councillor Drew Wickerson said Rockhampton Regional Council was pleased to support the event with $2,000 from the Community Assistance Program.

"Man with a Pram is a national movement born out of the need to support Dads who feel isolated during the perinatal period, and we commend Dads Group for its efforts in bringing this event and essential support to our region," Cr Wickerson said.

"Our Community Assistance Program works to assist non-profits and community groups to hold events that benefit and enhance our region.

"With Father's Day this weekend I couldn't think of a more fitting event to support than Man with a Pram."

Dads Group CQ Project Officer Reghart Botha said Dads Group and Man With A Pram were more than just social gatherings—they're lifelines for fathers navigating one of the most transformative and vulnerable chapters of their lives: early parenthood.

"One in ten new dads experience perinatal anxiety or depression—often in silence—because there's very little dedicated support for fathers," Mr Botha said.

"The event began as a simple yet powerful way to raise awareness, build connection, and create visible support for dads at a time when they might feel like they don't belong in prenatal or parenting settings.

"We are hoping for 60 Dads this Saturday, but the whole family and friends are encouraged to join us to show support to the Dads in CQ.

"We'll kick things off at Kershaw Gardens, then hit the pavement for a relaxed group walk with some food, coffee and good chat.

"The event also provides valuable support and advice to dads to highlight that help is easy to find – through a GP, an anonymous call or simply connecting via a Dads Group or Man with a Pram event."

Man with a Pram Central Queensland is supported by a network of partners including Relationships Australia Queensland, Walk'n'Talk, Mr Perfect, Play Matters, Wellways, Stronger Communities and Rockhampton Hospital staff.

Man with Pram Central Queensland will be held this Saturday 6 September at Kershaw Gardens, off Moore's Creek Road, Park Avenue starting at 10am.
