Premier must reveal where he stands on Hickey's privatisation push

  • Sue Hickey attacks hard working Housing Department workers
  • Hickey hasn't asked for housing to be quarantined from $450M cuts
  • Where does Premier stand on privatisation plans?
  • Liberal Member for Clark Sue Hickey has this morning launched a disgraceful attack on Housing Department employees.

In a submission to the Select Committee on Housing Affordability and in her appearance before the Committee, Ms Hickey also called for the Housing Department to be downsized and jobs privatised.

Ms Hickey also confirmed she has not asked Will Hodgman or Peter Gutwein to quarantine Housing from their $450 million in budget cuts.

Shadow Minister for Economic Development, Jobs and ICT Michelle O'Byrne has called on Will Hodgman to come clean on the Government's plans.

"Does Will Hodgman support Sue Hickey's call to privatise public sector jobs?" Ms O'Byrne said.

"Housing Department employees work tremendously hard trying to get people into housing.

"Will Hodgman's Government has chosen to blame workers, without acknowledging its own savage budget cuts, its failure to deliver on key promises and the reduction in affordable housing stock over the past five years.

"Will Hodgman should come out today and condemn Sue Hickey's privatisation plans.

"With his Government hanging by a thread, which is Sue Hickey's to pull, I'm willing to bet that this weak Premier will keep all of his options on the table."
