Premier not getting basics right on cost of living 2 September

Tasmanian Labor

The Premier's continued failure to get the basics right on the cost of living is placing huge financial pressure on Tasmanians like Ulverstone resident Maria Haywood.

Today at the Ulverstone Neighbourhood House Labor heard from the community about how the soaring cost of living means it is increasing difficult to make ends meet.

Maria Haywood shared her experience of how the cost of basics essentials is rising faster than she and her husband can keep up with.

Rents, power, water and groceries are all going up faster than incomes, and many Tasmanians like Maria need essential medications or health treatment which adds further cost to the household budget.

The skyrocketing cost of living is the biggest issue facing Tasmanians today. In the worst cases we are hearing from people who are forced to choose between heating and eating.

It's time for the Premier to start getting the basics right when it comes to the cost of living.
