Prepare your home for fire season

Building controls reduce the risk of ember attack during a bushfire and improve fire protection for homes. However, it's important to note that they do not guarantee a building will survive the unpredictable nature of a bushfire.

Spring is good time to start preparing your property, and there are easy and affordable things that owners can undertake to protect their properties. We encourage property owners to remove any rubbish and clear fallen branches and dead vegetation from around your property, including leaves and twigs. It's also important to keep grass cut to less than 10 centimetres to help reduce your risk of grassfire.

Make sure your property is accessible for emergency vehicles and has a water supply for firefighting. If you have a rainwater tank near your home, please ensure that this can be easily accessed.
