Lake Macquarie City Council

Cultural burn at Belmont

Bindelong Aboriginal Corporation is planning to conduct a prescribed culturally informed cool burn at Black Rock Motor Park, Wakefield on Friday 5 September between 10am and 5pm, weather permitting.

The burn will be undertaken by Bindelong Aboriginal Corporation contractors on behalf of Black Rock Motor Park, at 282 Rhondda Road, Wakefield, Lot 101 DP1073163 and Lot 76 DP755262.

This will be conducted as a low intensity burn for the purposes of cultural and environmental land management practices and biomass reduction.

Safety precautions

As the prescribed burn will generate smoke, and potential for embers and heat, it is important to consider the following:

  • Keep doors and windows closed to prevent smoke entering buildings and homes
  • Keep outdoor furniture under cover to prevent ember burns
  • Retract external plastic covering including pool covers, to prevent ember damage
  • Remove washing from clotheslines
  • Ensure pets have a protected area
  • If you are driving a vehicle and encounter smoke, slow down, keep windows up and turn headlights on
  • If you have asthma or a lung condition, reduce outdoor activities.
