Press conference notification - Mackay

The press conference will be in the outdoor play area at the Shakespeare Child & Family Centre, 43 Shakespeare Street, Mackay.

Professor Sanders will talk about the role positive parenting plays in helping prevent mental health problems in children living in natural disaster-prone areas.

He will present four free Raising Resilient Children seminars over the next four days in Mackay, Proserpine and Cannonvale as part of a State Government initiative to provide more support to families living in disaster-prone areas.

Professor Sanders will be joined by Toni-Marie Strange from the George Street Neighbourhood Centre’s community recovery team, who will speak about the financial and emotional impact Cyclone Debbie has had on the community.

Local mum Stephanie Black will talk about how her family life has changed dramatically since Cyclone Debbie, though it’s not all bad news - 12 months to the day after being forced out of their home by 1.2metres of floodwaters, she and husband Karl welcomed new baby Jake into the world.

All media invited to attend (and yes, Jake will be there J).
