Pride Month 2026: Bayside

Bayside Council is marking Pride month with a bold public art project featuring original artworks flown on flagpoles across Bayside, and a special author talk from an award-winning author and journalist.

As part of the month-long celebration, acclaimed Australian artist and designer Gary Bigeni has created three original artworks that will be flown on flagpoles across Bayside, transforming prominent civic spaces into colourful symbols of pride, creativity and belonging.

Renowned for his expressive use of colour, fabric and movement, Bigeni has translated the visual language of textiles into a series of bold, large-scale artworks created specifically for the streetscape. Installed as flags throughout June, the striking works will bring bursts of colour and energy to key locations across Bayside while celebrating the diversity and individuality that strengthen our community.

Complementing the public art installation, award-winning journalist and author Shannon Molloy will join the community for a special free author talk at Eastgardens Library on Thursday 18 June.

Shannon will share insights from his personal journey and acclaimed body of work, reflecting on identity, resilience, inclusion and the transformative power of storytelling. The event will include a discussion exploring how stories can build understanding, foster connection and help create more inclusive communities.

Shannon is the bestselling and critically acclaimed author of Fourteen and You Made Me This Way. His memoir Fourteen became a publishing sensation, was adapted into a sell-out stage production and is currently being developed for the screen.
