Privacy Awareness Week highlights the importance of privacy and raises awareness for public sector agencies about how to protect the personal information of the people we serve.
This year, Privacy Awareness Week NSW takes place from 3 – 9 May 2021. The Privacy Commissioner's campaign involves both public sector agencies and citizens and aims to improve understanding and awareness of NSW privacy legislation, and to raise awareness of a person's privacy rights and agency obligations. The theme for this year's campaign is Make Privacy a Priority.
We all have a right to privacy, and this Privacy Awareness Week, you can make privacy a priority by ensuring you review your everyday privacy settings, and inform NSW government agencies and local councils if you think your privacy has been breached.

The NSW Privacy Commissioner upholds and promotes privacy rights in NSW through:
- independent advice on privacy issues to Ministers, Parliament and Government
- advice and assistance to agencies regarding privacy, particularly in relation to priority digital projects which have higher privacy risk
- regulatory engagement to assist agencies with privacy compliance
- guidance and tools for agencies
- promoting good privacy practice through public speaking and other engagements with NSW Government agencies, the NSW Parliament and external organisations.
If you are concerned that Kiama Council has breached your privacy, you can request us to conduct an internal privacy review. The Privacy Commissioner has an oversight role in relation to the internal review.
