The prompt activation of assistance packages for individuals, small businesses, farmers and councils by the NSW and Federal Governments has been applauded by Mayor of Tweed Cr Chris Cherry.

Both levels of government have moved quickly to ensure there is financial assistance and support for all those impacted by the flood events unfolding in NSW.

Cr Cherry (pictured) said the floods had been devastating for residents, businesses and Council but welcomed the support being made available as the community moved to the flood recovery phase.

"I congratulate both the NSW Government and the Commonwealth Government on the speed at which they have been able to put financial support packages in place," Cr Cherry said.

"Our residents and businesses face the daunting task of cleaning up and rebuilding their lives and commercial operations.

"They have shown their resilience in the past and knowing they will be able to access financial support on multiple levels will at least provide the first steps back to recovery.

"Council also faces a huge task of rebuilding infrastructure and restoring services and government support will be crucial in that process."

Assistance for individuals and businesses can be found on the Service NSW website

Disaster Recovery Allowances are also available through the Federal Government via the Services Australia website

Business assistance and support can be found on Council's website.
