Property Council Applauds Suburban Housing Boost

Property Council Queensland Executive Director Jess Caire said that the property sector welcomed Council's initiative to commence the review and looked forward to providing input to unlock more housing for Brisbane.

"Given the scale and significance of the housing crisis it is imperative that we look to unlock housing everywhere we can.

"The suburban centres included in this review have the transport infrastructure to support additional housing.

"Previously the Property Council has worked with Brisbane City Council to boost housing in the right areas.

"This included Brisbane City Council's Inner City Affordability initiative which reduced car-parking rates in inner city areas with excellent transport connections.

"Industry has identified that the cost of providing a single basement car park in an apartment building is roughly $100,000 highlighting the need for Brisbane to examine options to better leverage our existing transport infrastructure.

"This review is the latest step in this process and the Property Council looks forward to providing industry's perspective on how this opportunity can be maximised to create much needed well-located housing for Brisbane residents.
