Northern Territory Police are investigating after unknown offenders caused in excess of $50,000 worth of damage to an organisation during an unlawful entry in Alice Springs overnight.
Just before 9:30pm security attended an intruder alarm after it was activated at a property on Gap Road. Minor damage was found at the property, which was re-secured by security at the time.
Just before 1am police were conducting proactive patrols in The Gap area when they observed a security alarm resonating from the same building on Gap Road.
On further investigation, officers discovered unknown offenders had unlawfully entered the premises and caused extensive property damage across multiple offices and areas within the building.
Detective Acting Senior Sergeant Robert Kent of Strike Force Viper said the estimated damage to the building was likely to be in excess of $50,000.
"Unfortunately the actions of these offenders have resulted in the community being unable to access key services provided by the organisation, today.
"It's unfathomable as to why someone has chosen to actively cause this much destruction to a property."
