Proposed planning scheme amendment to update planning controls is now on public exhibition

A proposed amendment to the Greater Bendigo Planning Scheme which affects land throughout the municipality is now on public exhibition.

The City of Greater Bendigo has prepared Amendment C247gben to the Greater Bendigo Planning Scheme which proposes to:

  • Implement the recommendations of the Greater Bendigo Planning Scheme Review, 2019
  • Update the Greater Bendigo Planning Scheme to be consistent with the Ministerial Direction - Form and Content of Planning Schemes
  • Rezone land which is inappropriately zoned and correct mapping and ordinance anomalies
  • Remove overlays which are outdated or have been identified by relevant agencies as no longer required
  • Rezone land in accordance with Greater Bendigo Public Space Plan, 2019 and Commercial Land and Activity Centre Strategy, 2015

City of Greater Bendigo Manager Strategic Planning Anthony Petherbridge said a lot of work had been done over the past four years to review and improve the Greater Bendigo Planning Scheme.

"This amendment has been prepared as a result of the Review and its recommendations to make the Greater Bendigo Planning Scheme much easier for the community to use and will lead to more efficient and consistent decision-making for the City as a responsible authority," Mr Petherbridge said.

"The proposed amendment is the third and final amendment to implement the recommendations for the Greater Bendigo Planning Scheme Review and ensures the planning controls are aligned with format changes at state level, removes overlays where there are no longer required and rezones land appropriately.

"The City is mailing around 1600 letters this week to inform property owners and occupiers about the proposed amendment to the Greater Bendigo Planning Scheme.

"The letters will outline specific changes to planning controls that will affect individual properties and why the changes are being made."

Amendment C247gben is now on public exhibition and the closing date for submissions is Monday December 19, 2022.
