Protest organiser charged over Public Health Order breaches

A man has been charged after allegedly breaching Public Health Orders in Sydney's west this month.

On Saturday 16 and Saturday 23 January 2021, officers from Parramatta Police Area Command attended and dispersed crowds at unauthorised protests in Parramatta's CBD.

An investigation was launched into the circumstances surrounding the protests.

Following inquiries, a 36-year-old man was arrested at a home on Gary Street, Merrylands, and taken to Granville Police Station yesterday (Thursday 28 January 2021).

He was charged with two counts of fail to comply requirement Public Health Order – COVID-19.

Police will allege in court that the man organised two unauthorised protests that did not comply with Public Health Orders.

He was granted conditional bail to appear before Parramatta Local Court on Tuesday 23 February 2021.
