PSPA declaration, Scarness

Police have made an emergency declaration under the Public Safety Preservation Act (PSPA) in relation to an incident taking place in Scarness.

Shortly after 9am this morning, police attended accommodation on Charlton Esplanade where a gas leak occurred following earthworks.

A PSPA was declared at 9.30am which encompasses Charlton Esplanade, Freshwater Street, Frank St, and the beachfront between Queens Road and Denmans Camp Road,

Police have evacuated affected residents.

Motorists and members of the public are advised to avoid the area while emergency services respond.

The incident will be protracted as crews make the scene scene safe.
