PSPA declared at Clifton Beach

Police have declared an emergency situation at a shopping centre in Clifton Beach in Cairns for a gas leak.

The declaration of an emergency situation under the Public Safety Preservation Act was made at 1.25pm.

It includes areas within Endeavour Road, Saxton Street, Eddie Street and Captain Cook Highway.

Clifton Beach residents within the exclusion zone are being asked to stay within their homes.

Officers remain on the scene.
