Public Assembly Restriction Ends After 44 Minutes

The NSW Police Commissioner has announced the Public Assembly Restriction Declaration (PARD) has not been extended and therefore the original declaration has now lapsed.

The NSW Police Force Commissioner was granted power to temporarily declare public areas "restricted" from assemblies following a declared terrorist incident, under laws passed by the NSW Government on 24 December 2025.

Today's PARD announcement means public assemblies are no longer restricted in any area of Sydney or the Eastern Suburbs.

The Summary Offences Act 1988 provides the legislative framework for the management of public assemblies.

From today, under the framework, an organiser of a public assembly who is seeking protection under the Summary Offences Act is required to serve notice (Form 1) on the Commissioner at least seven days prior to the assembly.
