Public assistance sought, assault investigation, Mt Isa

Police are appealing for public assistance after a girl was assaulted late yesterday afternoon in Mount Isa, Queensland Police say.

A 9-year-old was on Isa Street at 5.30pm yesterday when she was approached by an unknown man.

He started speaking to the girl before he grabbed onto her shoulder.

The girl reacted and bit the man before he pulled away and fled the scene on foot.

The 9-year-old was treated for a minor injury to her shoulder as a result of the incident.

The man is described as having a dark complexion, in his 30s, around 160cms tall and has a black beard.

He was last seen wearing a grey hooded jumper, black shorts and was wearing a distinctive blue, white and gold coloured necklace.

Police are appealing for anyone that has any information which may assist with their investigation to contact them.
