The Victorian Public Sector Commission's recently released workforce data (state of the public sector) 2025 has confirmed between June 2024 and June 2025:
- The number of Victorian Public Service executives increased by 15 positions to 1,902.
- Victoria's police and emergency services workforce reduced by 181 full-time equivalent (FTE) employees.
Under Labor, the number of Victorian Public Service executives has almost tripled from 675 in 2014-15 to 1,902 as of June 2025, as agencies including the Suburban Rail Loop Authority and VicGrid continue to spend millions of taxpayer dollars on executive recruiters.
Furthermore, the decline in Victoria's police and emergency service workforce across 2024-25 follows confirmation Victoria currently has almost 200 fewer FTE police officers compared to when Jacinta Allan became Premier.
Under Labor, Victoria's public sector wages bill has more than doubled as net debt continues to grow by $1.7 million an hour and is expected to reach a record $192.6 billion by 2028-29.
Leader of the Opposition and Shadow Treasurer, Jess Wilson, said: "These figures confirm Labor's priorities for the public service are all wrong.
"Under Labor, the number of public service executives has almost tripled, yet our police and emergency services workforce is in decline and persistent workforce shortages remain across education, healthcare and child protection sectors.
"Victorian communities don't need more back-office executives, they need more cops on the beat, more teachers in classrooms, and more healthcare professionals in hospitals.
"A Liberal and Nationals Government I lead will stop the waste so we can guarantee investment in the essential health, police, housing and education services Victorians need and deserve."
