Public Feedback Sought on Elouera-Mort Streets Upgrade

Community consultation is now open on a proposed upgrade to the intersection of Elouera and Mort Streets in Braddon.

The upgrade includes major improvements to pedestrian safety and connectivity as part of the wider Braddon streetscape upgrades underway by the City Renewal Authority.

The upgrades proposed include the replacement of the roundabout with a raised intersection treatment that calms traffic, the introduction of zebra crossings, verge widening, and installation of new lighting and landscaping.

The Authority's CEO Malcolm Snow said the upgrades to the intersection prioritise pedestrian movement to make it safer and easier to walk between public transport and local businesses.

"We're continuing to make Braddon more accessible and attractive for residents and visitors," Mr Snow said.

"By improving pedestrian safety and connections to adjacent public transport we're making it easier for people to enjoy Braddon's shops, restaurants, cafes, and bars.

Mr Snow said the improvements to the intersection were suggested by the community during consultation on the original Braddon Streetscape Program.

"Through the early consultation the community made it clear that supporting better pedestrian access, calming traffic, and improving integration with the light rail were the priorities."

The proposed upgrade includes:

  • replacing the current roundabout with a raised intersection
  • four zebra crossings with reduced road crossing distances; and
  • new lighting, landscaping, paving and furniture.

Canberrans are invited to view the concept design and provide feedback on the YourSay Conversations website before 11:59pm on Friday, 15 December 2023.

Construction on the intersection upgrade is expected to begin in mid-2024.
