Public high rise towers in need of good clean up

Liberal Party Victoria

Thousands of vulnerable Victorians living in public housing high-rise towers are being let down by the State Government's mismanagement of these properties.

Dozens of public housing properties across the state are in desperate need of maintenance and repair works, with reports of mould on the inside of some flats and complete neglect of the exterior of these buildings.

The vast majority of the external windows of major high-rise towers have not been cleaned since Labor took office in 2014. For a 'lucky' few, 2015 was that last time pigeon waste was removed from the external ledges.

Every public housing tenant deserves a clean, safe place to call home and local communities will struggle to rebuild and recover whilst vulnerable residents are living in such poor conditions.

Furthermore, residents of 9 high-rise towers suffered a hard and sudden lockdown which the Victorian Ombudsman stated was in breach of residents' human rights. The Andrews Government has never apologised or acted to improve the living conditions of those residing in those or other public housing properties.

Despite the State Government's spin on public housing, tenants living in these properties are too often overlooked and taken for granted.

Daniel Andrews must act to clean up the conditions of public housing properties and ensure all residents have a safe, clean and dignified place to call home.
