Public Input Sought for Renewable Energy Benefit Plan

A new program supporting communities involved in renewable energy development across the state has opened for public comment.

The Renewable Energy Community Benefit Scheme aims to coordinate the delivery of benefits to regional communities hosting renewable energy infrastructure.

Acting Minister for Energy and Renewables, Guy Barnett, said public feedback on the scheme would be critical to shaping how community outcomes are shared.
"Renewable energy development brings investment and opportunity to our regions and its important those communities hosting new infrastructure, benefit from these projects," Minister Barnett said.

"I encourage all interested Tasmanians to have their say and help shape this important initiative."

The Government is updating the Guideline for Community Engagement, Benefit Sharing and Local Procurement to better reflect community benefit-sharing as well as details of the Renewable Energy Community Benefit Scheme.
"An updated guideline will support consistent approaches to community benefit-sharing across the state, while maintaining flexibility for local priorities," Minister Barnett said.
"We are delivering for Tasmania by ensuring community benefit-sharing can support local infrastructure, environmental initiatives, education and skills development, energy equity programs, and broader community wellbeing."

The consultation process invites community feedback to ensure the guideline reflects Tasmanian expectations and best practice.

Consultation is open until 20 April 2026.
