Public Input Sought for Speed Zone Review

Swan Hill Rural City Council is inviting residents, road users, businesses and community groups to provide input as part of a comprehensive review of speed zones across the municipality.

Council's Director Infrastructure, Leah Johnston said the review reflected Council's ongoing commitment to improving road safety and aligned with the Victorian Government's Towards Zero initiative, aiming to eliminate road trauma and create safer road environments for all users.

"This review is a proactive step to ensure our road network remains safe, accessible, and responsive to the evolving needs of our growing community," Ms Johnston said.

Council's Mayor, Cr Stuart King said the review was also in response to numerous requests from community members and stakeholders seeking reduced speed limits on local roads.

"We've heard strong community concerns around pedestrian and road user safety, particularly in areas experiencing increased residential development, changes in land use and where crash history is an issue," Cr King said.

As part of the consultation, Council is seeking feedback on several proposed speed zone amendments, including:

  • Lake Boga Highway Lead-In – Murray Valley Highway (arterial road managed by the Department of Transport and Planning)
  • Former Piangil School
  • Monash Avenue, Nyah West
  • Karinie Street, Swan Hill
  • Woorinen Road, Swan Hill
  • Church Road, Nyah
  • Werril Street, Swan Hill and Back Boga Road, Swan Hill

Community feedback will help guide Council in making informed decisions that balance safety priorities with local conditions.

The survey is open now and will close at 9am on Monday, 7 July 2025.
