Public Input Sought on New Legislative Changes

Dept of Industry, Science and Resources

The National Measurement Guidelines 2016 and recognized-value standards of measurement are due to sunset on 1 April 2026.

If left to sunset, these legislative instruments will no longer be in force or have any legal effect after the sunset date.

Under the National Measurement Act 1960, the Chief Metrologist is able to determine certain legislative instruments that support Australia's measurement system. The National Measurement Institute is reviewing these instruments to make sure they remain current and useful.

As part of this review, we're proposing that 4 instruments be remade before 1 April 2026, while 6 instruments be allowed to sunset on the same date because they're no longer needed.

We invite individuals, industry and other relevant stakeholders to share their views by uploading a written submission.

Your feedback will help shape the future of these legislative instruments.
