Public Input Sought on Short Chain Chlorinated Paraffins Standards

Dept of Climate Change, Energy, Environment & Water

We are seeking feedback on a proposed scheduling decision for short chain chlorinated paraffin chemicals. This decision will help manage the environmental risks associated with these chemicals.

These chemicals have historically been used in Australia for the following purposes:

  • as a combined flame retardant and plasticiser in rubbers and plastics, including in conveyor belts used in mining operations
  • in manufacturing polyvinyl chloride (PVC)
  • as lubricants in metalworking
  • in treating leather.

Consultation on the proposed scheduling decision is open from Monday 9 October 2023.

Your feedback will help Australian governments and business to manage the environmental risks of these chemicals.

To make a submission, visit our consultation page. Submissions close on Wednesday 8 November 2023.
